What is a Trichologist?
A Trichologist is a medically trained hair and scalp specialist and an expert in the field of hair and scalp health. Trichology is the science of the structure, function and diseases of the human hair. Clinical Trichology is the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the human hair and scalp.
What is a hair and scalp consultation? What can I expect?
Upon arrival at the clinic you will be asked to complete a confidential medical history sheet to assist with diagnosing your condition. You will then be seen by Victoria Elliott, the consultant trichologist, will firstly go through your medical history with you, before examining your scalp and hair. This will usually be done with the use of a Dermascope, which magnifies the scalp and hair in greater detail, enabling her to determine the most suitable method of treatment.
It is a non-invasive procedure and therefore, painless.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depend upon the severity and duration of your condition. Generally speaking after six weeks' of treatments and support at home, we expect to see improvement in the condition and in the comfort of most patients.
Do you guarantee my hair will grow back?
This is not a guaranteed science, but we can say, that we will truthfully tell you what the likely outcome of your condition is, based upon many years' experience.
What happens next?
After the first treatment, remedies, topical treatments and some vitamins will be prescribed for home use to ensure continuity of your treatment. This very much increases the speed and likelihood of a successful outcome.
Although, many patients experience successful treatments with restored hair volume and texture, scalp disorders calmed and cured. Some patients with more challenging conditions will be referred to the UK's premier consultants for further investigation and treatment where we are unable to progress matters further.
