At TrichoSynergy Hair & Scalp Micropigmentation Clinic in London, we specialise in SMP treatments for Afro textured hair loss conditions. SMP can be used to cover any gaps on the hairline where the skin looks ‘shiny’ to minimise the look of balding.
Partings can be filled out using the diffused technique, giving the hair a fuller appearance.
It works particularly well when there is still some hair surrounding any bald patches to add texture to. This is truly a life-changing treatment, and after one appointment any thinning has been erased. At least two treatments are required and sometimes a third to balance or top- up where necessary.
We treat both male and female patients with a range of scalp and hair loss conditions.
Creating a fuller look with SMP - This is the ideal treatment for women with thinning hair and hair loss due to menopause.
Scalp micro pigmentation is perfect if you are a black woman who is thinning on the top or across the crown section of your head. The micro pigmentation treatment helps to create density and the appearance of a natural, full head of hair. SMP adds the look of density to the scalp to cover and thinning areas and assist longer hair by concealing this and allowing it to look healthy and full.
We also assist women with Afro textured hair transitioning from relaxers (growing out the chemically processed/straightened hair) back to their natural curly/textured hair preventing hair breakage.
SMP is a great solution for a thinning afro hairline or temples, and black male thinning hair. The key here is to keep it looking as natural and unaffected as possible. During the consultation, we will discuss restoring the hairline to a reasonable position, whilst taking all facial and age-related features into consideration.
Where male pattern baldness is prolific, the issues will be addressed section by section. Ultimately, the hair will have to be shaved close to the scalp (which is on trend), so the procedure will look natural and blends effortlessly. When expertly executed, SMP is an excellent solution for Male Pattern Hair Loss and can be extremely rewarding. The hair appears to have thickened and grown in afro hair, especially black hair thinning at the crown. Your hair will be looking like the freshest trim ever!
The SMP treatment will need to be ‘topped-up’ at around 6 months’ intervals, but not only does this keep you looking fresh, it helps to manage the overall cost in the long term.
A 3D shaved effect appears during the maintenance phases, when the initial dots have slightly faded out and the new ones are more prominent, creates the illusion of randomness and depth.
Since the scalp skin varies from one person to another, from 3mm to 8mm the scalp micropigmentation needle passes through the epidermis to deposit pigment into the superficial dermis at a depth of 0.5mm.
If a wig, prosthesis or topper is used, then it must only be worn during the day and without glue for one month after the SMP Treatment.
If scarring is present due to long term infections, such as folliculitis, then it may be possible to cover and lessen some of the damaged surface of the scalp, and make it look less unsightly. It usually requires several sessions of SMP to accomplish a natural, blurred finish when the scalp is scarred.
Please note: Corrective work is undertaken by Victoria Elliott, where an unsuccessful SMP treatment has been carried out elsewhere, and you are unhappy with the result. I’m happy to see if I can rectify this for you.
SMP is useful for topping up the appearance of hair volume after a hair transplant procedure. Where a patient has had the maximum available grafts, but the scalp is not as dense as required, then SMP can fill in the spaces and the added hair texture makes for a very pleasing, natural looking result.
For further details regarding this procedure please see (SMP Male) where an in-depth summary can be found.

In this image (Before SMP) you can see the widened parting which is typical of female pattern balding, where the parting resembles a Christmas Tree.
In the second image (After SMP) the hair looks fuller and naturally thicker. The SMP treatment has blurred the thinning scalp making the parting appear of normal width. As you can see this is a very natural and satisfying result.
